Contents and learning objectives
In this session, the focus is on methods for the systematic and objective observation of behavior in natural or simulated situations.
The session begins with an introduction to the basics of observations as a scientific data collection method. This includes an overview of different methods and research designs in observational studies, strengths and weaknesses of observation methods, and different areas of application.
In chapter 2, we then introduce simulation methods. Here you will get to know different techniques that can be used to assess job-relevant competencies and behaviors. A personnel selection method that combines different techniques is the assessment center technique. Its methodology, procedure, strengths, and weaknesses are explained in chapter 3.
In chapter 4, the observation of consumer behavior in simulated situations is described using the example of purchase simulations and simulated test markets.
