Session Outline and Objectives

In this session, you will gain knowledge on work motivation. More precisely, you will learn:
  • why motivation is important for the individual and the organization,
  • how it can be described in terms of mental models and theories,
  • how it can be assessed,
  • diagnosed,
  • increased,
  • and how motivation can be managed in an organizational context.
After this session, you should:
  1. understand why motivation is a crucial factor for individual satisfaction and organizational success.
  2. know and understand the components of the motivation theory underlying ProMES (Pritchard & Ashwood, 2008).
  3. know how motivation and its different components can be assessed.
  4. be able to identify different solutions to different motivational problem areas.
  5. understand the importance of a profound evaluation and feedback system.
