2. Tips and tricks for using StudOn

Using StudOn | Working groups for students

Tabs

In our learning module "Navigation and central functions in StudOn" you will find a lot of helpful information about the dashboard, your personal workspace and the other menu items that are displayed on the left side of the slate. Here, the central functions are explained, which will help you to find your way around our teaching and learning platform.
The following sections are located in the ‘Student Groups’ section under the main menu at ‘Repository > Resources - Home > Working groups for students’.
Student associations (Fachschaftsinitiative – FSI) represent all the students in a department or subject.

Several FSI organise their activities via StudOn and offer valuable and helpful information and advice or organise events for students of a department or subject. Here are a few examples:
  • Information about studying
  • Events for students (excursions, parties, etc.)
  • Services (advice, help with preparing for exams, etc.)
It’s worth checking the FSI groups regularly for updates.Link to the student associationsList of student associations and their contacts (the list was put together by ‘Stuve’ (the Students’ Representatives at FAU) and can be found on the ‘Stuve’ website).
Information from the Students' Representatives is also available in StudOn.
The Students' Representatives look after your interests as a student at FAU at the departmental level, university level and throughout Bavaria. (Source: https://stuve.fau.de/stuve/ 17.09.20)
In this section, you can create one or several groups that you can manage by yourself or with other students. It’s the ideal location for your study group.
  • You can use these groups to study and work together (e.g. preparing presentations, organising learning groups online, preparing and practising for exams).
  • This section is checked and maintained by the StudOn team on a regular basis. This means that groups set up for private purposes as well as groups that are older than one year are deleted after checking.
  • There are a few rules to observe:
    • Everything that happens in the group (e.g. discussions in forums, agreements about dates and deadlines and so on) and all the material that is uploaded (e.g. summaries, drafts of reports, presentations, etc.) must be relevant to your studies.
    • Please ensure you comply with copyright law governing use of copyrighted material for academic work (UrhWissG) when uploading documents. More information is available here.
    • If you need any help creating your group, just take a look at the hints and tips in this section or contact us via phone (+49 9131 85 61133) or via e-mail (studon@fau.de). We are happy to help.
