Fundamentals of fulid modelling with OpenFOAM (FMOF)

In this course you will learn the fundamentals of simulations and computational fluid dynamics. You will learn how to use OpenFOAM open-source software to set up a simulation, post process the simulation data and analyze the results. This course is project oriented, the course participants will work in groups on the project. You will set up a case, define the boundary conditions, run the simulation case with the proper solver, visualize the results and extract data from the simulation. It’s expected that each participant gives a presentation on their simulation case, visualization and results. Having a computer is necessary to participate in this course. -hands-on experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) -experience with open-source simulation tools -understanding the fundamentals of simulation Students will get - Skills and in depth knowledge in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) - Teamwork , presentation and project experience - Skills using advanced open-source simulation software (OpenFOAM) - Familiarity with object oriented programming - Pre-processing and post-processing of the simulations

In this Seminar the following topics will be presented:
- Introduction to CFD
- Introduction to Linux environment
- Introduction to OpenFOAM
- Hands-on projects with OpenFOAM
- Hands-on tasks with Paraview for visualization of the simulation results

In addition to the provided tasks, you will be assigned a project. the Oral examination consists of presentation of your project steps and project results and submitting a report.
Fluid flow in a hollow cylinder, modeled with OpenFOAM

Time schedule and Information

The course FMOF is scheduled for Aug. 26th – Sep. 6th. You will then receive a task that shall be completed by you or in a small group. In order to support you with setting up your environment/models, we provide consultation sessions in the second week. The exam date is Sep. 20th. The exam will consist of a presentation of your model and results and some specific questions related to the provided information in the course.

This course will take place from 9:00 to 17:00.
