Flashcards
The flashcards training offers students the possibility to repeat definitions and terms of a glossary according to the flashcard principle. In doing so, they can check their own knowledge themselves.
The idea of flashcards is to train with them on a daily basis. The recommended procedure is the following:
  • The flashcards trainer consists of five subjects. It is always started with the cards first subject, the start subject, and these are repeated daily. A card that is answered correctly moves one subject further, a difficult card stays in the same subject and a card with an incorrect answer moves back to the start subject.
  • The other subjects are trained when the repetition of the previous subject is completed.
Flashcards training leads to long-term retention of concepts, vocabulary or facts.
Before you create a flashcards training, there must be a glossary whose contents can be used for the training. If this is the case, you can proceed as follows to set up a flashcards training:
  1. In the course/group where you want to create the training, select "Flashcards Training" via "Add New Item".
  2. StudOn opens a settings page where you can choose between "Add New Flashcards Training" (create a new flashcards training) or "Copy Flashcards Training" (copy a flashcards training from another course). Click "Add New Flashcards Training".
  3. Give your flashcards training a descriptive title. Optionally, you can add a description.
  4. Click on "Add Flashcards Training".
  5. StudOn will give you feedback that the item has been added. You are now on a page where you can add more settings. You can always access this page by opening the "Properties" tab in your flashcards training.
Important: Students need reading access to the glossary in order to use the flashcards training! The glossary can be seen and used by users when it is online. (Students will be notified if they do not have read access).
You can edit your flashcards training at any time under the "Properties" tab.
  • Title: Here you can set the title of your flashcards training.
  • Description: Here you can optionally add a description.
  • Online: Place a checkmark in the checkbox behind Online if you have finished creating your training. Only when checked will students be able to access the training.
  • Glossary selection: Click Select to assign a glossary to your flashcards training. StudOn opens an overview of online offerings where you can navigate to the location of the desired glossary and select it. The selected glossary now appears. Via "Select" you can choose another glossary (only one glossary can be used). Via "Reset" you can remove the glossary again.
  • Glossary training mode: You can choose whether the definitions should be asked for the terms or vice versa (useful for 1 term - 1 definition) or whether the first definition should be displayed as a question and the further definitions should be remembered as an answer (useful for multiple definitions).
  • Instructions: In this field you can write instructions for the students, which will be displayed to them on the start page of the flashcards training.
Finally, click "Save" to apply your changes.
Note: Please note that new terms written to the glossary after the flashcards training has been created must be added to the training using the "Update cards from glossary" button ("Properties" tab of the flashcards training).
