Question Pool serve as a repository for collecting, managing, and sorting questions. Question Pools are used to compile a list of questions for a Test.
Functions
- Questions created in the question pool can be (re)used in multiple tests.
- Different question types can be created in the Question Pool.
- Organize question pools with user-defined taxonomies.
- Filter questions in the Question Pool to select them for a test.
- Question pools allow you to create randomized tests using taxonomies.
Only owners and authorized users (such as course administrators) can edit Question Pools. Course members cannot view or access them.
Use Cases
- The Question Pool allows you to save and reuse questions.
- Collaboratively create questions using the Question Pool. Authors can assign a status to each question (e.g., "draft" or "ready for use") to track its progress and indicate its readiness for inclusion in a test.
- Students can collaborate in groups to formulate exam questions and provide feedback to each other using the comment function. Lecturers can then integrate these student-generated questions into self-assessments.
- Question Pools save time and effort in recurring exams by allowing the reuse of existing questions and the addition of new ones.
- When creating randomized tests ("Random Question Selection" in the test menu), organize your Question Pool using taxonomies and nodes. Taxonomies enable you to categorizequestions by criteria including difficulty or topic. This determines how questions are selected for the test.
Instructions
- To create a Question Pool Test, navigate to the "Add New Item" section of the drop-down menu and select the item "Question Pool Test".
- Subsequently, a new page opens. Select "Option 1: New Question Pool Test" and provide it with a title and, if desired, an accompanying description. To proceed, click on the button labeled "Add Question Pool Test".
- Go to the "Questions" tab to create or import questions. Select the desired question type and click "Create question". Continue adding questions as needed in this tab. Access the question overview to see all your questions.
- Open the "Settings" tab.
- In the "General Settings" sub-tab, set the Question Pool to "Online". (Important: Questions can only be added to a test if the Question Pool is online!). Activate "Show Taxonomies" to use them for filtering questions in the question overview.
- Add taxonomies and create nodes in the "Taxonomies" sub-tab. You can then assign these taxonomies to your questions within the "Edit Question" tab for each question.
