Chat
In StudOn it is possible to contact users directly at the same time (synchronously):
  • Own chat rooms (e.g. in your course)
  • Public chat rooms
  • From the "Add New Item" drop-down menu in the upper-right corner, select "Chat Room".
  • A new field will appear where you can give the new chat a title and add a description. Fill in the field.
  • Click the "Add Chat Room" button.
You will enter the edit mode of the chat object.
Various additional options are available in the "Settings" tab of the chat room object:
  • Allow anonymous login: Under certain circumstances, people who do not have an ILIAS user account can also participate in the communication in ILIAS chat rooms. These will then appear as anonymous users. Please note that for the access of anonymous users ...
    • the appropriate permissions must be set in the "Permissions" tab, i.e. at least "Visible" and "Read" in the "Anonymous" column.
    • the chat room must be located in a place in the magazine that is accessible for the "Anonymous" role.
  • Allow Private Rooms:Users can use this feature to create séparées from the chat room, to which only other users invited by them will have access (see next chapter).
  • Enable History:Communication in the chat is recorded in a history by default; however, this can be disabled.
ILIAS has a scheme "Autogen #" for automatically generated user names for anonymous users. This automatically replaces a placeholder '#' with a number; however, you can also customize this placeholder as you wish.

The anonymous users who open a chat room can be allowed to create their own username.
To enter a chat room, click on its title.
Nachdem Sie den Chatraum betreten haben, können Sie sich an der Kommunikation beteiligen und Ihre Beiträge einstellen:
  • Im Hauptfeld findet die Kommunikation statt. Sie sehen die Beiträge der anderen Chatteilnehmenden. Vor dem jeweiligen Beitrag steht, wer diesen geschrieben hat.
  • Unterhalb des Hauptfelds können Sie Ihren eigenen Beitrag in das Feld „An alle“ eintragen. Senden Sie den Beitrag ab, indem Sie auf "Abschicken" klicken. Danach sehen Sie auch Ihren Text im Dialogfenster.
After you enter the chat room, you can participate in the communication and post your contributions:
  • The main field is where the communication takes place. You can see the contributions of the other chat participants. In front of each contribution you can see who wrote it.
  • Below the main field you can enter your own contribution in the "To all" field. Send the contribution by clicking on "Send". After that you will also see your text in the dialog box.
Via the internal Actions menu of the chat room you can invite users who are logged in to ILIAS to the chat room:
  1. Click on "Invite to Current Room"; a pop-up will open where you can search for users.
  2. ILIAS will offer you all currently logged in users whose username fully or partially matches the search term for selection.
  3. Click on the user name.
  4. ILIAS reports in the main field: The user has been invited. The user will then see a corresponding notification in the upper right corner of the browser window.
You have the following options as a chat moderator (i.e. automatically when you have created a chat), ...
  • eject an ILIAS user from the chat: An ejected user can participate in the communication in chat again at any time by calling the chat again.
  • lock out an ILIAS user from the chat: a locked out user cannot participate in the communication in chat, neither reading nor writing, until the lock out is lifted again.
You are inside a chat room:
  • To eject a user, select the "Eject" option from the menu related to that user in the "Users" block on the right side.
  • To ban a user, select the "Ban" option.
In any case, the participant will receive the message
The connection to the chat server was interrupted.
Locked users will also receive the message when trying to re-enter the chat.
You have been banned from this chat room. To unlock participants, unblock them:
  1. Go to the "Blocked Users" tab. The locked users are listed there.
  2. Select the locked user who is to be unlocked at the corresponding checkbox.
  3. Click on "Unlock".
