The "External Content" item allows for the incorporation of a variety of external content, tools, and third-party applications into StudOn (e.g., fau.tv, Lecture-on-demand, and MATLAB Grader). The incorporation of these resources offers a multitude of avenues for enhancing the learning environment and providing students with a diverse array of resources and opportunities for interaction. By incorporating these external elements directly into StudOn, students are able to engage in learning activities without having to leave the platform.
Functions
- Different types of external content can be incorporated, including video clips and courses from the RRZE video portal(fau.tv), Lecture-on-demand packages, and MATLAB Graders. The LTI interface makes it possible to connect additional external learning tools to StudOn without having to log in again.
- The external content can be displayed in a variety of ways within StudOn. The content or the tool can be embedded directly into the StudOn content page, opened in the current window or in a new window.
Use Cases
- It is possible to embed individual clips or even entire courses (e.g. a series of events) in StudOn via fau.tv.
- The incorporation of simulations or virtual laboratories into the platform allows users to engage with authentic scenarios and participate in skills-based learning.
- The MATLAB Grader is a tool that can be employed to create and evaluate mathematical problems and assessments.
Example
Instructions
- To begin, select "External Content" from the "Add New Item" drop-down menu.
- Subsequently, a new page opens. Provide the external content with a title and, if desired, add a description.
- Choose the content to be integrated with StudOn from the available options in the field entitled "Type". Options:
- Type "RRZE-Videoportal": Enter the "Clip-ID" or “Course-ID" ("Kurs-ID") from the video portal and indicate whether the video should be freely accessible or password-protected in StudOn.
- Type "MATLAB Grader": Select the desired option for the tool's integration: either embed it within the StudOn content page, open it in the current window, or open it in a new window. Use the "Settings" menu to add "Instructions". These will appear in the "Content" tab for the students. To create or add a problem, select the "Starten" (“Start”) button, which is located within the "Content" tab. Upon clicking "Starten", students are automatically directed to the problem that has been created.
- Click "Save".
